The electric buses that we’re looking for are actually battery operated buses and it’s a better option to support a green environment… and it’s costly now for investment but over time, it will be far better for the long-term compared with diesel buses.”

“For the electric bus technology, the most important thing is battery protection,” Zohari Sulaiman told reporters at the ‘Ride for Green Campaign’ in conjunction with World Environment Day.

He said the cost of an electric bus could reach MYR 1.2 million (USD 375 250) compared with that of a diesel bus which costs between MYR 100 000 (USD 31 280) and MYR 500 000 (USD 156 400) from China and around MYR 700 000 (USD 219 000) from Europe.

The electric buses, which could last between 250km and 300km per charge, would serve selected routes and depots because they require special charging facilities. busworld..org
