Buslovers sedikit membahas tentang Bus yang menggunakan teknologi Air Suspension, sebenarnya teknologi apalagi yang di temukan untuk membuat nyaman sebuah bus. Baiklah rekan bismania nusantara kita akan sedikit membahas mengenai Air Suspension berikut ulasanya :
Menyambut kehadiran Sassis Mercedez Benz yang pakai air suspension (AS) sejak lahir, coba kita lihat sejenak esensi sistem suspensi ini. Harapan banyak penumpang akan kenyamanan bus dengan Air Suspension ternyata banyak yang sirna, karena setelah merasakan Air Suspension, kenyamanannya justru di bawah pegas daun OH klasik. Belum lagi gebyah uyah bahwa semua AS sistemnya sama.

Kita mulai dari contoh bus ber Air Suspension bawaan bodi yang populasinya pernah paling banyak di Indonesia yaitu bus kota Ikarus 247. Bagi yang pernah menikmati bus kota ini era 90an- awal 2000an tentu merasakan kenikmatan yang jauh dari bus kota bikinan dalam negeri. Tapi seandainya para penikmat tadi disurvei dari 10 orang belum tentu ada 2 orang yang tahu bahwa bus tersebut pakai Air Suspension. Tapi kalau yang ditanya supirnya hampir pasti tahu bahwa busnya pakai Air Susoension dan stabilitasnya di atas O306.

Sekarang coba kita cari alasan kenapa kok bus kota macam Ikarus 247 pakai AS? Apakah demi kenyamanan semata, ternyata bukan. Kalau Cuma ngejar nyamannya bus kota dengan pegas daun sudah cukup. Yang dikejar dengan AS adalah agar level ketinggian lantai bus dapat terjaga agar tidak turun saat penumpang penuh karena dilengkapi dengan leveling valve. Levelling valve juga berfungsi mendeteksi kemiringan bis jika bis berbelok. Tekanan udara akan dipompakan lebih besar ke sisi yg lebih rendah. Misalnya bis belok kekanan, otomatis body akan miring ke kiri. Maka tekanan udara akan diberikan lebih besar ke suspensi sebelah kiri agar ketinggian bis menjadi seimbang.

Sekarang kalau yang dibandingkan dengan Air Suspension minimalis yang tekanan angin balonnya tidak terhubung dengan tangki kompresor, tanpa leveling valve. Ya tentu saja AS macam ini kalah dengan suspensi pegas daun orisinal. Jadi membandingkan AS bikinan karoseri dengan AS original sasis sebetulnya tidak pas, karena jenis dan kelasnya memang beda. Kalau karoseri bikin AS dengan kelengkapan seperti original sasis pasti kinerjanya gak beda jauh, cuma pertanyaannya apa pemilik bus mau bayar harganya?

Bagi yang ingin menikmati AS di Jakarta silakan naik bus gandeng Komodo, yang pakai Air Suspension bawaan bodi. Bandingkan bantingannya dengan busway Hino, Daewoo atau yang lain, rasa-rasanya Komodo masih lebih empuk. Apa lagi kalau Komodo dibandingkan bus gandeng Jing Hua punya PPD di masa orde baru dulu, jelas Komodo sangat nyaman dan Jing Hua goncangannya bagaikan naik di bak truk.

Engines

The engine in the Volvo B7R, the Volvo D7, is a modern 7-litre, six-cylinder common rail diesel engine with a turbocharger and an intercooler. It meets the Euro 3/Euro 4/Euro 5 emissions requirements.

Powerful brakes
The brakes on the B7R are of the same effective type as fitted to Volvo’s larger buses. The brake area totals 6,865 cm² and they offer high safety, immense durability and long service life. ABS anti-locking brakes are available as an option to further enhance safety levels. Asbestos-free brake linings have long been fitted as standard on all Volvo buses.

A well adapted powertrain
The rest of the powertrain is adapted to enable the engine to provide as much power as possible. There are two automatic transmissions from which to choose. Both feature an integral retarder for enhanced braking capacity. There is also a choice of two manual gearboxes from Volvo. Both the manual and the automatic transmissions have been developed to provide the best possible driveability and to harness the maximum power from the engine.

High degree of ride comfort
 The Volvo B7R is fitted with air suspension, which effectively compensates for irregularities in the road surface and offers a high degree of ride comfort. Stabilizers are fitted as standard on both the front and rear axles, minimizing the tendency to roll.
